The Austerlitz Firehouse took a big hit from the storm Irene. The water smashed the doors and coursed through the truck bays. Fortunately, the fire fighters were able to rescue the trucks and relocate them to a safe location nearby. It is clear that a new firehouse is needed.
Meanwhile, yesterday during the storm, the volunteers were busy all day, and into the dark night, pumping out the cellars of the folks who live in the neighborhood along route 22. They worked hard, with good cheer, often needing the same service in their own homes. I have to admire the volunteers who sacrifice so much and their families who often are left home to cope with the sames issues that are confronted by the whole community. Hats off to the volunteers, their families, and to all the survivors. Time to clean up!
